What is task ambient lighting?
Task ambient lighting uses a single source to provide both task and ambient lighting. Often, the term is applied incorrectly where separate luminaires are used to provide local task lighting and general ambient lighting.
Is tambient lighting compatible with my furniture system?
Yes. Our universal and system specific brackets mount to most systems. For unique situations, we can fabricate custom mounting accessories. In many cases, the same type of hardware that is used to support workstation shelves and storage cabinets engages the furniture panels and supports our luminaires.
How can indirect lighting be installed on low partitions without creating glare?
Our unique (patent pending) louvers shield AND direct lamp output to achieve a low-brightness appearance with maximum coverage.
Does tambient lighting work in large spaces with high ceilings?
Yes, as long as the ceiling is reflective. Matte white is preferred for best results.
How much light will I have in my workstation?
Our task ambient luminaires are designed to provide approximately 50 footcandles at the worksurface. Luminaire length, mounting height, and reflectivity of privacy panels determine the efficiency. Workstation based lighting layouts assure that each worker receives the same high quality lighting.
How can I get a sample luminaire?
Contact your local representative.
Where can I get tambient product literature?
To keep you up-to-date, tambient product information is available exclusively at thelightingquotient.com. You can print literature from our web site.
Can I purchase tambient lighting through my furniture supplier?
Yes. You can choose any intermediary. To facilitate project coordination, it may be of benefit to negotiate a service charge with your furniture dealer or installer to receive, deliver and/or install your purchase. You can even have your furniture dealer purchase the items for you.
Does tambient provide installation services?
No. tambient lighting is easy to install and requires no special skills. Just hang or set luminaires in place and plug them in. Alternatively, you can contract the installation with your furniture dealer or installer. We will ship your items to the dealer/installer at your request.
What will the construction team use for lighting if there are no ceiling mounted luminaires?
Temporary lighting that is normally provided by the electrical contractor should be maintained until the furniture is installed. Wall lighting, which is recommended for all projects, would be in place for finishing work.
Do furniture based lighting systems increase electrical system costs?
No. Even with PC loads as low as 1.0 watts per square foot, a typical 3-circuit or 4-circuit panel wiring system will provide sufficient dedicated power for furniture-based lighting, and overhead lighting circuits are eliminated.
Can I get an emergency standby ballast in my tambient luminaire?
Yes, as a custom modification. Note that it must be hard wired to an unswitched circuit. It is most economical, however, to have separate lighting for the purpose.
Do tambient luminaires work with daylight harvesting and DALI lighting control systems?
Installing task ambient lighting can reduce connected loads by 30-40% without the cost and complexity of variable lighting controls. For projects where the cost benefit of daylight harvesting is justified, tambient can provide luminaires with dimming ballasts and control circuit connections. Contact factory for details.
How do I justify the cost of furniture integrated lighting when ceiling mounted lighting is included in my lease?
It’s better lighting and may not cost any more than the supplemental desk light that may be needed – and the energy savings more than compensate if you are charged for energy use. To help offset the cost, you can negotiate a credit for omitting an overhead luminaire and apply it universally during fit-up.
